Some professional news: Beginning Jan. 13, I'll be the Executive Producer of MSNBC's new program 'The Weekend' with Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders, and Michael Steele. 8-10am Saturdays and Sundays. I'm deeply excited to begin this adventure with these talented individuals. The news, of course, is bittersweet — as it means that my time with Ayman Mohyeldin and Mehdi Hasan is coming to an end. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with these incredible men as I tried to capture their voices every week. I'll miss them deeply and am so grateful for the kindness and friendship they've both shown me the last two years.I'm thankful to the network for this opportunity and can't wait to hit the ground running in 2024. https://lnkd.in/euv5eAsa

I attended show and tell event at my kids school today. They are in puberty, the event was organized in small stands tied to topics, each kid had to explain for 5 minutes, the audience -parents and teachers- was walking by the stands gathering at a stand at a time.I saw some kids were very outgoing and eager to perform, while others were having a really hard time. The audience would ask questions in each presentation, responding questions was challenging for all of the kids. From a grown up perspective, the topics seemed fairly "easy" and straight forward, really the exercise was not about knowledge, but about the skill to address an audience and effectively share a message. All kids had the same knowledge, capacity, age, resources, etc. Yet a portion of them struggled getting the job done.I thought about the young people I team up with; how I have seen many of them struggle similarly. Knowledge is there, and although they left puberty way back, same condition is shared: they still lack experience performing communications, structuring a message, sharing and idea. In all fairness, I was at that same stage myself during my career.Often my young team mates will complaint, because I push them real hard when I see them struggling like this. I guess they feel pushed the same way kids felt today in the show and tell. But the same principle drives the two scenarios: the path to growth is challenging.Only the one who sees you're capable of greater things will push you. Don't you think?
